This set of match box labels will ignite interest in collectors of movie memorabilia, from the Silent Era through to the Golden Age and beyond. Silent legends Rudolph Valentino and the timeless comedian Charlie Chaplin are honoured in this set. The legendary lady who conquered both the early silent movies and the difficult transition to the “talkies”, Joan Crawford, appears in this set also. A plethora of cinematic Golden Age heartthrobs make an appearance: Clark Gable, Cary Grant, Gary Cooper, Errol Flynn and James Stewart. The ultimate glamour icon, Marilyn Monroe, unleashes her seductive charms on one label and her inspiration and role model, Jean Harlow, on another.
Not much is known about when this elegant set of labels was actually issued but I think we can safely assume that it was brought out in either the late 1960s or 1970s, since most of the actors and actresses depicted are long since dead but John Wayne was still very active in movies right through until 1976.
